Grace

I heard a great but simple quote today-Grace is not just.

As I was thinking about this, I realized how pertinent it is to the Kingdom of God, and to the issue of violence that I’ve been thinking through.  We often think about circumstances where violence might be a response we might have, and we ask-Where’s the justice?  So we respond and try to restore justice.  And this is a great motivation.  But we are called to live lives of undeserved love-of grace.  Grace is not just.  Perhaps sometimes we will allow ourselves to be acted upon in an unjust manner, because grace is not just.

Grace is not just-Thank God for that!!!  If all we got was justice, none of us would stand a chance.  But by the grace of God we do stand a chance-because grace is not just.

I’m driven by fairness and justice A LOT. Thanks for sharing this quote so that I can try to get my mind around the concept of giving grace to others instead of always expecting them to receive justice. I don’t live in that state of mind regularly. Justice is not necessary, but grace definitely is when you’re in the kingdom business.

Was walking by and heard your post. Grace is amazingly undeserved but wanted to qualify that God’s grace is not unjust. At one time I thought that the only way for God to love me is if he somehow forgot about his just side. Then I discovered Rom 3:26.

There God is just AND the justifier (justifier of ungodly people in Rom 4:5). He can do this because of the payment for sins in Rom 3:25. It is just for God to give us what we didn’t deserve because Christ took the punishment for our sins and paid for our blessings out of his richness.

Though I don’t deserve everything God has given me (grace) it is all justly paid for by Jesus Christ. The only reason it is grace to me is because I was not the one doing the paying.

…throwing down my two cents. Keep pressing on.

But it was unjust that Jesus paid for our transgressions. I think you are trying to say that God made it just for us to recieve what he gives us, but the only way we get it is by Christ sacrifice, and Christ having to sacrifice on our behalf is unjust-he didn’t deserve it, but he did it for us. That is not just, but it is grace.
